Yesterday I managed to go shopping for real in a real supermarket by myself...well not quite by myself...I had one child with me but that's pretty good going for someone who normally has three children hanging onto her.
I kind of felt like that woman in that postcard that has been doing the rounds on facebook...
And I actually managed to get most of what was on my shopping list. Lately I have had to do the grocery shopping online as it is near impossible for me to manage going into a supermarket without feeling like this...
and I would end up leaving the shop without even the right combination of ingredients to get us through the next meal let alone the next week.
Anyway, the point I am trying to get to, is that I had saved the odd coupon I had been sent or cut out over the past few months and remembered to take them along to the supermarket. Most of the coupons were for only 20p or 30p off a product, with a couple of them being £1 off (for nappies), and to my astonishment when I handed them all over at the till, my shopping bill reduced by nearly £10.
Previously I used to cut out and keep those coupons but all too often I wouldn't remember to make the effort to use them and they would expire and I didn't think it mattered that much. But in total they made a nice little saving. I used them towards products that I was buying anyway so it didn't lead to any additional impulse purchases.
And as an added bonus, when I got home and pricechecked my shopping, I noticed there was a £5 off your next £40 shop coupon to print. Which I did. So if I remember to use that, then my little vacation to the supermarket would have saved me £15.
