Wot so funee - How not to handle a bully!

The boys both had karate this evening. J did get his orange belt despite the original hiccup so he now does the later class and today was his first session in that class. D still does his original class time as he is on deputy red belt.

When it got to J's lesson time he started to have a wobbly. Regular readers will know by now that J + any kind of change + aspergers = wobbly or meltdown (or at least a high likelihood of wobbly or meltdown).

To keep D out of the way, I suggested he play on the school playing field outside where I could keep an eye on him through the window but he wouldn't be affected by J's (now increasingly intense) wobbly episode.

Eventually J calmed down enough to join in. I glanced over to check if D was ok and found him and one of the big lads that had been playing football in the ball court next to the field looking rather confrontational.

I rushed out there to see if D was ok. The big lad quickly walked off as D ran over to me. His mates shouted at D "running back to your mummy are you". I was about to go over and point out that he is just a little 7 year old boy and that they should be picking on someone their own size when D tells me that "it was ok mummy because I called them a stinky poo head when they asked me to throw the ball back to them".

Ok so I now couldn't say anything to them as D hadn't really done himself any favours by saying that and he had quite clearly forgotten the way he has always been told to deal with bullies; to step away, shout "leave me alone" and run away.

We walked back to the karate hall. At this point the karate teacher had decided to do the rest of the lesson outside to make the most of the great weather so a classful of karate students in full karate kit with gloves on (they look like big boxing gloves) and pads marched out to the playing field towards the football lads.

Well, the terrified look on their faces was a picture as they thought that me and D had gone in and told the others about them being mean and now they had a massive group of karate kids heading towards them!

Of course, we hadn't said anything, it was just one of those coincidences that led to a funny scenario. Well, funny for me and D because we knew the whole picture but I am guessing not so funny for the big football lads for those few moments before they realised that we were just doing the lesson outdoors and not out to get them.
