I'm determined to get our Mexico write-up done before the year is out! Encouraged by how much Granny enjoyed reading about our time in Bath and Bristol over the summer, here goes with day 1 of Mexico...

What an exhausting day it was yesterday. And pretty
momentous for Los Cabos as it was the day of the inaugural flight direct from
Europe to Los Cabos and the biggest plane to have ever landed in Los Cabos.
We didn't know that upon waking up early at around 4am to
set off for Gatwick airport at 5am.
Upon arriving at check-in we were greeted by Tui staff. They were surrounded by blue balloons and gave us cupcakes to celebrate the occasion of the
inaugural flight. How exciting! Yet that was nothing compared to
what was yet to come.
Thankfully all ran to schedule for the flight. I was fearing flying after having travel sickness and a faint spell on the flights to and from
Mauritius a couple of years ago. We'd known about this holiday for about a year
as I was the incredibly lucky winner of a competition that Tui ran. Yet the
fear of a difficult flight was still there. I dosed up on travel biotics and
ginger in advance to see if that helped.
This time it was D who ended up looking rather pale. He
doesn't like airplane food so refused to eat and started to feel a but queasy
as the tiredness set in too.
The cabin crew were the friendliest I've ever seen.
One of whom was aware that I was the competition winner and was really excited.
They were also really understanding of autism when J wanted some space away
from his seat and stood for a while at the back of the plane.
It was just such a long long flight though. 11 and a half
hours.
When we arrived in Mexico... well let's just say the
Mexicans know how to do a warm welcome. We were greeted at the airport by a
welcome party with musicians, food, traditional dress and the press. We were
given goody bags and it really was a special occasion. This being the first direct flight from Europe was a very big deal in Los Cabos.
Not only was the welcome warm the weather was hot hot hot too at 34
degrees!
Then onto the Tui coach to meet our rep and be taken to the
hotel. We are staying at Riu Santa Fe and having Tui guests from the UK here is also a first for both the
hotel and Tui.
So guess what was awaiting us upon arrival at the hotel...
another welcome party! Musicians, a welcome drink, food and lots of
welcoming people to greet us all clapping and cheering as we walked in.
Check in at the hotel was super quick having been given a
form on the coach to complete.
We've got two adjacent rooms and have worked out that when
we are inside our rooms we can close an outer door and leave the inner doors
open to be able to go between the two rooms more easily like we did in Dubai when we were there in 2016.
We did a speedy unpack and then tried to decide whether we
just wanted to get to bed (it was 5.30pm local time but the equivalent of half
past midnight UK time and none of us had managed to sleep at all on the plane
so were utterly exhausted) or whether to grab some food first.
In the end we decided to grab a bite to eat as the main
buffet restaurant, La Baja California would be open at 6pm.
There is food available literally 24 hours a day as an all
inclusive resort but having 3 meals a day is going to be plenty for us.
After a speedy meal we headed to bed about 8pm and then
awoke around 2am with our body clocks telling us it was morning. It
wasn't.
